About Ajanta Afrika

Ajanta Afrika started out as a small business, visiting Jewellers across Southern Africa. Over the years the business has grown, I still travel all over, to buy and source all the gemstones we sell.

Where It All Began...

  • I started the business in 2006, from the love of travelling, and the love of stones… I worked with specimens and rough for the years before I started specializing in cut and polished gems. Ajanta Afrika started out as a small business, visiting Jewellers across Southern Africa. Over the years the business has grown, I still travel all over, to buy and source all the gemstones we sell. Following the trends, selecting the stones, looking for unusual pieces to complement the range of standard stock our Jewellers always need.

  • Over the years the team has grown, and I have the most amazing ladies running our office in Cape Town. Between them, many years of experience in retail, wholesale and manufacturing, excellent product knowledge and super friendly vibes. We specialize in quality stones. Our range consists of the “bread and butter” items, as well as a wide variety of special. cuts, individual and unique pieces, rare beauties and changes all the time. We help our clients with special orders and cuts as much as possible.

  • We pride ourselves in friendly and efficient service. Whether you come in to our office to select, or ask us to do so on your behalf and ship it out, we do it all. We are a member of the Jewellery Council of South Africa. Some notes on gems...

  • Gemstones are cut in a process where rough crystal is polished to perfectly enhance the color, clarity and sparkle of the gem.  Much consideration is given to choose the best shape and cut to bring to life the true magic of the gem.  This is specifically the case with color stones, to capture the greater concentration of color for perfect appearance from the gem’s surface.

  • The shape, the type of cut and facets chosen to give life and display the absolute beauty of each stone is a true art. From below the surface of the earth, the rough stone transformed into o a polished gem to be worn in the jewellery that adorn us, the symbol of our love and commitment to another.

  • Gems have a strong connection to origin and through the ages have had meanings attributed to them, spiritually and as talismans, protection and bringers of good luck. Gems are valued by their beauty, brilliance, intensity of color, durability and rarity.
